No child wants to step on a bee! Eddie Price has come forward with another excellent book, this one for children and parents of children. Mr. Price is a retired educator and an excellent story-teller. Parents, teachers and even school librarians will appreciate Little Miss Grubby Toes Steps on a Bee! because it provides the opportunity to teach children about being careful as they grow up and go through their day. There are helpful pauses in the story for teachable moments for child and adult. I think this is just the beginning. I predict more "Little Miss Grubby Toes" tales. The art work is dynamic and beautiful too!

She love the feel of mud between her toes. She would run and play and jump all without her shoes. One particularly pretty day when she asked to go outside her mother told her not to take her shoes off because she might be stung by a bee. Little Miss Grubby Toes promised but once outside it was just too tempting. She took her shoes off and began to play. You can guess what happened next. I love this book. It is the first in what promises to be a great new series. This tale teaches there are consequences to our actions. It also provides an educational quality in teaching about bees. At the end of the book there are discussion questions and ten words to find in the story making this a great teaching resource for educators. There is also a puzzle/ mystery where you try to guess Little Miss Grubby Toes’ real name. The illustrations are beautifully done. Award winning author, publisher and artist Mark Wayne Adams is the illustrator. He is originally from Dawson Springs, KY. Award winning author, Eddie Price from Hawesville, KY, penned this adorable tale. The next book in this series will be Little Miss Grubby Toes Plays with Fire. Little Miss Grubby Toes Steps on a Bee! is a children's picture book written by Eddie Price and illustrated by Mark Wayne Adams. Little Miss Grubby Toes loves to play outside, but she hates wearing her shoes. It's much more fun to run around barefoot, and she does that everywhere, getting her feet very dirty in the process. That's why her father started calling her by her nickname. One day, however, her mother says that she can go outside and play, but she can't take off her shoes outside because the lawn hasn't been cut and there are a lot of bees flying around. At first, Miss Grubby Toes keeps those shoes on, but after a lot of running around and playing, her feet get so hot and those shoes are so uncomfortable. She starts to think that maybe, if she were very careful about where she stayed, being barefoot might be okay.

Eddie Price's children's concept book, Little Miss Grubby Toes Steps on a Bee! is entertaining and educational all at once. The message that parents and guardians have good reasons for setting limits and imposing restrictions is artfully conveyed in this whimsical and beautifully illustrated fable. Adams' watercolor paintings are marvelous! I loved the expressions on the little miss and her animal friends' faces, especially when she's considering taking off those shoes. The looks of dismay and concern on the animals' faces are priceless. I also enjoyed the educational aspect of the tale which dealt with the steps honeybees take to produce honey, and the real dangers that severely allergic people face when stung by bees. Little Miss Grubby Toes Steps on a Bee! is recommended.

This book is great for either gender of children from listening age up who need to "listen to their Mother". The message is clear without being condescending. It is beautifully illustrated with many cute characters who interact with Miss Grubby Toes.

Little Miss Grubby Toes Steps on a Bee! by Eddie Price is a beautifully illustrated story about a little girl who prefers to run around without shoes. She does not pay heed to her parents' advice on the importance of wearing footwear while running about in the garden, and she lands up in trouble. Ms. Grubby Toes wants to have fun in her own way and do her own thing. But, what happens when she is being naughty and not listening to Mama and Daddy? Does she learn a lesson from her misadventure? As a mother of two very mischievous toddlers, I loved this book. All it took was one reading with my children session to drive home the importance of wearing shoes, especially while running about outside. Now, I just need to say "Ms. Grubby Toes" and the kids put on their shoes before stepping out. It worked like a charm and to those parents struggling to talk logic with their toddler, this book could surely help. Mark Wayne Adams has done an outstanding job with the illustrations. The pictures bring the story to life and the kids enjoyed giggling over Ms. Grubby Toes jumping in the puddle and trying to catch a butterfly. It is always a joy when kids willingly learn and agree to listen. This is possible only when they understand the concept and this simple story has managed to do just that. The message is concise and clear. Surely, a winner of a book.

A young girl is nicked-named "Little Miss Grubby Toes" by her parents because she didn't like wearing her shoes. As a result her feet and toes were always dirty and grubby. One particular day, Little Miss Grubby Toes wanted to go outside and play. Her mother agreed, but only if she kept her shoes on because the grass wasn't mowed and bees were on the wild flowers. Without her shoes on, they would sting her bare feet and toes. Little Miss Grubby Toes agreed and started playing outside. As the playing, chasing, and fun continued, she began to feel hot, especially on her feet. Will Little Miss Grubby Toes obey her mother or will she take off her shoes?

Little Miss Grubby Toes Steps on a Bee by Eddie Price is a charming children's story introducing young readers to the concepts of obeying, listening, and consequences. The author digs deep into the mind of a child as he portrays the main character's emotions, movements, mannerisms, and actions. Like most children, the main character in the story, Miss Grubby Toes, wants to be a good girl and obey her mother, but in the heat of the moment, she does what her instincts tell her to do and disobeys. Most young children would have done the same in a similar situation, just being children, growing and learning.

The story plot and dialog are creatively written to relate to any child of the character's age. A young reader will learn valuable lessons and concepts concerning the importance of obedience, listening, and consequences. Little Miss Grubby Toes did not listen to her mother's warning and instructions, and disobeyed her. Therefore the consequence of her action was that she got stung by a bee. The book is a great resource for young readers, parents, and teachers alike to utilize and enjoy.
